I've also read that any damage done to the home button will cause the button to never work again as well as even a replacement because it's not the original. You probably would need a new backplate and a new button for the button to be recognizable. I wonder if the cheap screens are causing the home buttons to get damaged and stop working. But I've never had a case of that on iPhone 6s screens coming from my supplier. Please don't spread false information, you can absolutely replace the iPhone 7 LCD and still have a working home button, people need to stop using low quality garbage, and be careful during the repair. I don’t know if this is the exact problem but on the 7, the screw on the home button bracket that was touching the home button would get tightened to tight and it wouldn’t recognize a click.

Bro @m&d you should be accepting in other for us all to find this cure. Without the phone at hand u cant find the exact problem. Some phones have to be a labrats for the experiment.

Also read someone said the metal bracket that covers the little disc can be screwed too tight hence preventing the home button from working properly. It really doesn't cost that much and will save you a ton of headache. I had the same frustration with 5 iPhone 7's in a row, while using expensive $50 oem screens. This issue is mostly due to a defective screen, but can sometimes be motherboard. With my electron repair microscope I could spot a problem with the motherboard.
Ive not seen any issues or with SW or just by opening them up, IMO they are just myths for bad repairs. If the home button stopped responding after just opening it, you've either damaged the cable on the right hand side of the phone. Someone try this, Make a back up of iPhone 7, Replace the screen with a aftermarket screen, seal it up and then put it in DFU mode, let it wipe it self then restore it in DFU mode. Just interested to see if it will replace the firmware and accepting the new screen and the HB as the original. I would do it but I do not have a iPhone 7 for testing. The Home button on iPhone 7 will not work if you replaced a new screen.
